GOVERNOR'S EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR
This program highlights educational innovation, student achievement, the rewards of teaching, and important services outside the classroom environment that lead to student success.

JEN CHUNG
English as a Second Language Teacher

Ms. Chung has been teaching English as a Second Language at Lyndhurst High School for 4 years. She also taught ESL at Morris Hills Regional District and at an elementary school in Paterson. She received a B.A. in history at Rutgers and an M.A.T. in TESOL at Teachers College. Before going into education, she worked briefly in publishing.

She feels fortunate to teach this particular group of students who represent a variety languages and cultures and add richness and diversity to our Lyndhurst community. What they do on a daily basis is aptly summed up by the old saying that everything Fred Astaire did, Ginger Rogers did, but backwards and in heels. English learners not only face all the challenges of a typical high school student, but also have to learn all their subjects in a different language and adapt to a new culture. Ms. Chung admires her students for meeting these challenges with great patience and perseverance. Her goal is to assist these students in being prepared linguistically and academically for high school and beyond.
