Academic Hall of Fame Inductee 2023
The 2023 inductee to the Lyndhurst High School Academic Hall of Fame is Malcolm J. McPherson Jr. Esquire, Lyndhurst High School Class of 1974.
While at Lyndhurst High School Malcolm excelled academically graduating as the Valedictorian of his class. He was the President of the National Honor Society and the Business Editor of the yearbook. Malcolm was the recipient of several MacLean Awards Scholarships including the Ted Shoebridge-Marcell Laiterman Memorial Scholarship, The Elks Scholarship and the George Garret Memorial Award in History. He was a three-sport athlete, who excelled in football, basketball and baseball and as a senior Malcolm was named captain of both the basketball and baseball teams.
After graduating Lyndhurst High School in 1974 Malcolm continued his education at Seton Hall University, Majoring in History and minoring in Legal History, Government, English and Business. While attending Seton Hall he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi- the Professional Business Fraternity where he rose to the position of President, he was also a member of the Phi Alpha Theta- International History Honor Society and the Thomas Moore Pre-Legal Society serving as their treasure.
Malcolm graduated from Seton Hall, Cum Laude earning his Bachelor Degree in 1978 and was excepted into the Seton Hall University School Law where he earned his Juris Doctor degree upon graduation in 1981. In that same year he passed both the New Jersey State and New York State Bar exams.
Malcom began his legal career as a law clerk at the Law Firm of Edwards & Antholis in Morristown in1979, he became an associate in 1981 and then was named partner in 1986. He practiced law at the Morristown firm until 1991, at which time, he decided to opened his own practice here in Lyndhurst. Malcolm specializes in Civil Law: Including Matrimonial, Municipal Land Use, Estates and Personal Injury. Malcom has also served as the Lyndhurst Rent Leveling Board Attorney since 1992. He is a member of: The New Jersey State Bar, The New York State Bar, The American Bar Association and The Association of Trial Lawyers of America.
Malcolm is also an avid community volunteer. He was initiated into the Benevolent and Protective order of the Elks in 1981 had has been an active member for over thirty years. He has held numerous positions including, Exalted Ruler of Lyndhurst Elks #1505, becoming the youngest person to hold that position, the President of the New Jersey Elks Association, Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler for the North Central District and was the Elks National President for 2017-2018. Malcolm has also been honored by the Elks achieving the status as an Honorary Life Time Member.
Malcom has also given back to his community by serving as a volunteer in their youth sports programs. He has given his time coaching football, basketball, baseball and softball and also been involved in the Hudson County Special Olympics program.
Malcolm currently resides Lyndhurst with his wife Patricia and is the proud father of their two daughters, Meghan and Mallory.
