2017 Academic Hall of Fame

 

The 2017 Inductee into the Lyndhurst High School Academic Hall Of Fame is Dr. Christine Ann Denny, Phd. Lyndhurst High School Class of 2001.

Christine excelled in a variety of areas while at Lyndhurst High School. Academically she maintained Distinguished and High Honors and graduated as the class[ Salutatorian. She was recognized as an Edward J. Bloustein Distinguished Scholar, a Finalist for Governor’s School, a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Conference Ambassador, a Girl’s State Ambassador and a member of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ’s Mini Med 2000 and Pre-Medical Honors Programs.  

Christine was extremely involved in extra-curricular activities. She received her Varsity Letter in Volleyball and Track and Field, and served for two years as Captain of the Volleyball Team. Christine is a member of the Lyndhurst High School National Honor Society, Served as Student Government President, Key club President, Academic Competition Team Secretary and served as a Peer Tutor.

Christine was the recipient of several scholarships and awards including The Anthony J. Biasucci Memorial Award, The Ciarco Scholarship, Taub Scholarship, The Frank Thomas (Conrail) Scholarship and was recognized in Who’s Who In American’s High School Students.  

After graduating Lyndhurst High School in 2001 she attended Boston College graduating in 2005 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a minor in Theology. While at Boston College she maintained Honor and Dean’s List status, received an Advanced Undergraduate Research Fellowship, served as an Appalachia Volunteer, Volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and tutored Students in the University’s Athletic Department.

After graduation Christine continue her education earning her Master Degree in Biology from Boston College in 2006. She went on to earn her Doctorate Degree in Biological Science from Columbia University in 2012 and received a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Columbia, ending in 2013.     

Christine has held teaching positions from 2004 to the present. She began teaching at Boston College as a laboratory Instructor and Teaching Assistant in Molecular and Cellular Biology and then as a Teaching Assistant in Anatomy and Physiology. She then went to Columbia University serving as a Teaching Assistant in Neurobiology, Headed the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Program and presently heads the Amgen Scholars Summer Research Program. She is now serving, as a Mentor in Columbia University’s the BRAINYAC Program.

Christine has published almost 30 articles and Manuscripts, has received almost 5 and a half Million dollars in research grant money, has been the recipient of the American Society for Neurochemistry Travel Award, the Molecular and Cellular Cognition Society Young Travel Fellowship, the International Brain Research Organization Travel Award, the National Institute of Health Director’s Early Independence Award and the Brain & Behavior Research Foundation / NARSAD Young Investigators Award.

 Christine is currently working as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurobiology in Psychiatry at Columbia University as well as a Research Scientist for The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. at the New York State Psychiatric Institute.
